Chapter 10: Nina's Art, Plate 2 - Glass Shadows

"Alex? It's Nina"

"Hey, wha'sup?"

"So how'd it go?"

"How'd what go?"

"Come on, the date!"

"What date?"

"Alex, ¡No seas pinche! Come on, tell me!"

"What does 'pinche' mean?"

"Okay Alex, if you don't want to talk about it, I'm going to hang up"

Of course I wanted to tell her. She knew that. Nina's a good friend. I needed to talk to her about my date with the Czech girl introduced to me at BeBe's Art opening. She started by asking me the details.

"Were did we go? What did she wear? What is she like?"I told her that we went to the Third Street Promenade. She wore a wool sweater, jeans, boots and she was sensuous, thoughtful, slightly ironic, and a communist.

Then she asked me how I felt about it, the date that is. I evaded the question with a wisecrack. I told her I'd never dated a Communist.
